Senator Colburn Target of E-mail Hacker

On December 7, 2010 Senator Richard F. Colburn (R-Mid Shore) was the unfortunate target of an e-mail hacker. In the early hours of this morning, a false message was sent out from Senator Colburn's e-mail address indicating that he was stranded abroad without his passport or credit cards and needed to borrow money in order to return to the States. Senator Colburn stated, “Unfortunately, my e-mail account was hacked into this morning, and a fraudulent e-mail was sent out to all of my contacts. However, the problem is being corrected, and the appropriate law enforcement offices have been contacted. At this point, I am able to send and receive e-mails again and have taken the necessary measures to prevent another hacking occurrence. I apologize for any confusion or inconvenience; and I appreciate everyone who called and e-mailed me to express their concern for my well-being. I am hopeful that those responsible for this grievous misrepresentation will be prosecuted.”

The Senator wishes to express thanks to all who notified him of this matter.

A Message from Senator Richard F. Colburn

I am writing to thank all who voted for me in the 2010 Election. I love representing the 37th District and will continue to work hard on its behalf. A steadfast commitment to constituents is the highest form of public service, and I am committed to serving the people of the Eastern Shore. Also, I want to thank everyone who worked on behalf of my campaign, and I want to express my appreciation for everyone who has supported me over the years.

Lastly, I want to congratulate Chris Robinson for running an honorable and respectable campaign. He did remarkably well in running in Maryland’s geographically largest district. It is a tough district and Mr. Robinson proved himself a worthy candidate.

Again, thank you!

Senator Colburn receives Daily Times endorsement

Senator Richard F. Colburn is pleased to announce the Daily Times in Salisbury has endorsed his candidacy for the 37th District State Senate race. The Editorial Board released the following comments in the October 27th edition of the Daily Times:

Colburn is deeply rooted in Shore culture, life
October 27, 2010
Maryland Senate District 37 has been represented for the past 16 years by Rich Colburn, who also works as town manager for Federalsburg. District 37 includes portions of Caroline, Dorchester, Talbot and Wicomico counties -- a diverse area both geographically and culturally. Colburn, a Talbot County native, has close and long-held ties with the farmers, poultry growers and watermen of his district, as well as the municipal residents and leaders through his work in Federalsburg.
In addition to his 16 years in the state Senate, Colburn served two terms in the House of Delegates. He navigates the Annapolis legislative landscape as familiarly as he does the rural district he represents. One of his strengths is constituent service, both in a broad sense as well as helping individuals resolve problems. Maintaining the quality of life on the Eastern Shore as we know it today is high on his list of priorities.
Colburn is concerned about perceptions that the state of Maryland is not a business-friendly environment. He said he is frustrated with Washington and its tendency to overregulate and micromanage matters that should be handled at a state or regional level. He would like to see the state sales tax rolled back to 5 percent and eliminate the so-called "millionaire" tax.
At the same time, he recognizes the need to work across the political aisle with state Democrats --a long-held majority in both houses of the legislature -- to effectively represent his constituents.
His challenger is Chris Robinson, an attorney who lives in Trappe and practices in Cambridge. Robinson describes himself as a "conservative Democrat." He is focused on quality-of-life issues --urban planning, education and public safety among them. He advocates many of the same positions as his opponent --a healthy Chesapeake Bay, a business environment that nurtures small business success as well as agriculture and fisheries, and keeping taxes low.
Robinson's experience includes a stint as legislative director and chief of staff for former 1st District Rep. Roy Dyson.
Colburn has the experience, perspective and a deep understanding of the region, the issues and people of District 37, as well as a good record of effective service and representation. He is the better choice for voters.

Senator Colburn receives Star Democrat endorsement

I am pleased to announce that the editorial board of The Star Democrat has selected me as their choice to represent the Mid Shore in Annapolis. The announcement was made in the October 20th edition of The Star Democrat. They stated, "he excels at constituent service. There were many examples of how Sen. Colburn personally responded either with a phone call or letter to a constituents problem or a concern. He puts his heart into representing the Eastern Shore and has earnestly championed a new Dover Bridge and continued dualization of Route 404. He appreciates Shore businesses, watermen, farmers and the importance broadband Internet access will have on commerce. Mr. Colburn supports a return to the 5 percent sales tax and believes taxes should not increase during a recession."
This endorsement is truly an honor. I will continue to represent the interests of the Mid Shore to the best of my ability. I am proud to be a Shore Senator!
